Yo Gotti, born Mario Sentell Giden Mims, was born in Memphis, Tennessee, on May 19th, 1981. He grew raised in Memphis’ Frayser area, at the Ridgecrest Apartments. His father was a Zimbabwean gym instructor, while his mother was of South African ancestry. Yo Gotti grew up in a crime-ridden environment, and federal officials searched his family’s home when he was in third grade. Several members of his family were arrested and sentenced to up to 15 years in prison.
