Early Life
T-Pain’s real name is Faheem Rasheed Najm. He was born on September 30, 1984 in Tallahassee, Florida. His father Shasheem was the founder of the Homeboyz to Men program and his mother Aliyah was a Bahamian chef. The ‘T’ in his name stage name T Pain stands for Tallahassee as a reminder of all the hardships he faced while growing up at that place.

Career
In 2004 T-Pain joined the rap group Nappy Headz and later released a cover of Akon’s single KNocked Up titled I’m Fucked Up. The song caught Akon’s attention and he offered T-Pain a deal to his label, Konvict Muzik and promised him a personal mentorship in the industry.
T-Pain released his first album Rappa Ternt Sanga in December 2005 which hit #33 on the Billboard 200 and was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America. The lead single I’m Sprung, was released in August 2005 prior to the album release and reached number eight on the Billboard Hot 100.
His second album Epiphany was released in 2007 which sold 171,000 records in its first week and reached number 1 on the Billboard 200 and US R&B charts. Amidst the promotions of his album T-Pain featured on multiple songs by other artists including Outta My System by Bow Wow, I’m So Hood by DJ Khaled, Kiss Kiss by Chris Brown, Low by Flo Rida, and Good Life by Kanye West.

T-Pain released his third album Three Ringz in 2008 which reached #1 on the US R&B chart and #4 on the Billboard 200 chart. This was also his first album under his record label Nappy Boy Entertainment. His album Revolver was released in 2011 and reached #7 on the US R&B chart. The album also featured guest appearance from several well known artists including T.I., Lil Wayne, Ludacris, DJ Khaled, Ciara, Chris Brown and Kanye West among others. T-Pain also released a mixtape titled Pr33 Ringz prior to the album in early 2008. The mixtape was also featured as the introduction for the album. On September 24, 2009, T-Pain and app creator Smule created and released the app “I Am T-Pain,” which allows people to use his style of Auto-Tune in karaoke. In November 2009, the first single from his fourth untitled studio album, Take Your Shirt Off was released which was later dubbed as a promotional song. The song didn’t fare well among the audiences. He alos released a mixtape on his Nappy Boy label in February 2010, T-Pain Presents: Nappy Boy All Stars Vol.1. His first feature film, Lottery Ticket, was released on August 20, 2010. After much delay and releasing several promotional songs his fourth studio album titled RevolveЯ was released in December 2011.
In April 2013, T-Pain announced the title of his fifth studio album, then entitled Stoicville: The Phoenix but the album didin’t release on the expected release date. His long-shelved collaboration with Lil Wayne, “T-Wayne” was released on May 18, 2017 which contains eight tracks recorded in 2009 described as “lost demos.” After numerous delays and renaming his fifth stufio album titled Oblivion was released in November, 2017.
T-Pain also appeared on the first season of the U.S. version of The Masked Singer. He won the first season dressed as the Monster. He beat Donny Osmond and Gladys Knight to take home the inaugural win. On February 27, 2019, the same day he won show he released a surprise new album titled 1UP and announced a new U.S. tour in support of it. T-Pain was in a golf cart accident on March 27, 2009. He was scheduled to shoot a video for Lil’ Kim’s song Download. T-Pain lost four teeth and had cuts and bruises from the accident. He was back on stage performing two days after his accident.
