Oscar-winning sound engineer Resul Pookutty clarified on Monday that some unsavory statements he is believed to have made about director SS Rajamouli’s hit film “RRR” were actual statements made by people from the West and that he was simply making them.

A controversy was raised Monday after the sound engineer, while reacting to a person who dismissed the film as garbage on Twitter, called the movie “a gay romance.”

Pookutty also stated that Alia Bhatt had been used as a prop. Baahubali producer Shobu Yarlagadda lashed out at Resul Pookutty and shouted his comments. The producer said he was disappointed that one of his hits could “sink so low”. Later that day, Shobu raised Resul’s comments and shared that he doesn’t think RRR is a gay romance but asked that even if it was, why was that a bad thing?
