Famous actor and director Pratap Pothen died at the age of 70. The actor was found dead in his apartment in Chennai. Pratap Pothen was born on 13 August 1952. He did his schooling at Lawrence School, Lovedale in Ooty, and Madras Christian College. He acted in about 100 films in Malayalam, Tamil, and Telugu as well as Hindi and directed 12 films.
Pothen started his career in 1978 with the Malayalam film Aavaram. In 1979, he won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor for his performance in Thakara. In 1980, he again won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor (Malayalam) for Chamaram. Some of his famous movies include Ayalum Njanum Thammil, Thanmathra, 22 Female Kottayam, Ezra, Arikil Oral, etc. Pratap married actress Radhika in 1985 and divorced in 1986. He then remarried Amala Sathyanath in 1990. The couple has a daughter. Her marriage also ended after 22 years in 2012.
Her last film was ‘Barroz’ with Mohanlal, which was yet to release. He made his directorial debut in Meendum Oru Kaathal Kadhai for which he won the Indira Gandhi Award for Best Directorial Debut. Another famous map of Pratap Pothen is Oru Yathramozhi starring Mohanlal and Sivaji Ganesan. Pratap Pothen’s last film to hit theaters was Mammootty-starrer CBI5: The Brain.
