Early Life

Paul was born in Houston, Texas, on March 11th, 1981. He attended Houston’s Jersey Village High School. Wall attended the University of Houston after high school, where he studied mass communications for three years.
After graduating from university, he met local rapper Chamillionaire and the two began collaborating on mixtapes.
They persuaded Michael “5000” Watts to let them rap on his radio station, and their popularity grew from there. They proceeded to record mixtapes and appear on the mixtapes of other rappers in Houston, with each new mixtape bringing new business chances. Paid in Full Records eventually signed Paul and Chamillionaire to a one-album deal.
The album “Get Ya Mind Correct” was released in 2002. The record was well-received, and over 200,000 copies were sold.
Career
Wall’s debut album, “Chick Magnet,” was published in 2004 by Paid in Full Records. Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums list placed the album at number 54. Paul signed with Atlantic Records and Asylum Records a year later to produce his second album, “The Peoples Champ,” which was an instant hit, debuting at number one on the Billboard 200.
The album was later certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), and the singles “Sittin’ Sidewayz” and “Girl” were both certified gold in the United States.
Paul released his second and last collaboration studio album with Chamillionaire, “Controversy Sells,” in 2005. The album charted at #50 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. Wall’s third solo album, “Get Money, Stay True,” debuted at number one on the Billboard Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums list in 2007.
The hits “Break ‘Em Off” and “I’m Thrown” were included on the album. That same year, Paul was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group for his work on the song “Grillz” alongside Nelly.
Paul embarked on a countrywide tour with Tech N9ne and Ill Bill in 2008. Wall appeared in the 2009 film “I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell.” He co-wrote the film’s songs with screenwriters Tucker Max and Nils Parker. Paul also released his fourth studio album, “Fast Life,” in 2009.
Wall worked with Jump Shot Media, a social and mobile gaming firm, to produce “Battle Rap Stars,” the world’s first mobile battle rap game, in 2011. Paul is a character in the “main event,” and he is the rapper that players must defeat in order to win the game.
Wall released a mixtape called “No Sleep Til Houston” in 2012, then a year later, he collaborated with Slim Thug on a mixtape for the 2013 NBA All-Star Game in Houston.
Paul released his sixth and seventh studio albums, “#checkseason” and “The Po-Up Poet,” in 2013 and 2014, respectively. His Paul Wall Music imprint released the albums independently.
“The almost circus-like production re-establishes the idea that as long as Wall’s been in the game, he’s been a beloved Texas rap legend,” Vibe magazine said of “The Po-Up Poet.”
Wall has released five additional studio albums since 2014, including “Slab God,” “Houston Oiler,” “Bounce Backs over Setbacks,” “Mind over Matter,” and “Subculture.”
During the 2008 campaign, Paul openly expressed his support for President Barack Obama and was a member of the “Barack the Vote” campaign. Wall has performed for deployed US troops on several occasions.
