Olivia Rodrigo fans are raging as the tickets for her highly anticipated ‘Sour Tour’ has sold out instantaneously. Over 40,000 fans were in a queue for a venue that couldn’t even accommodate a quarter of them.
Tickets for the ‘Sour Tour’ officially went on sale Friday, Dec. 10, but many were left empty-handed as the market was flooded with eager buyers.
There’s no denying that Olivia Rodrigo is one of the biggest stars in the world today. She has been regarded as the breakout musician of 2021. Two of her songs, ‘Good 4 u’ and ‘Drivers License,’ both have more than 1 billion streams on Spotify, the latter being the most streamed song in the world in 2021 on the platform. Her first album Sour is easily the most successful project of the entire year. Rodrigo, who broke out on the Disney Plus show “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series,” is up for seven Grammy awards, including Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year and Best New Artist.

With that in mind, there is a huge demand to see Olivia perform live on tour but many fans have been unable to get tickets.
Earlier this week (Dec 6), Olivia took to social media to announce that she would be going on tour from April to July in 2022. The pop star has announced dates for the US and Europe with Gracie Abrams, Holly Humberstone and Baby Queen all supporting her. Her tour is set to start in April in San Francisco and will continue to 40 cities throughout North America and Europe.
One would expect that Rodrigo’s team would have taken her on an arena tour especially as the hit singles ‘Drivers License’ and ‘Good 4 U’ earned her global attention. However, fans were dismayed to know that the tour will take place in amphitheatre sized venues which generally hold around 5,000 people or less instead of arenas which can often hold up to 20,000 people.
Rodrigo’s fans are raging and they certainly aren’t taking the venue matter lightly as countless fans spent their mornings waiting to grab some tickets. Sadly, most were left empty-handed.
Some fans were signed up to a Verified Fan registration through Ticketmaster which was exclusively for her North American tour dates. This is much like a presale but it supposedly gave them more chance of purchasing tickets. Fans who had signed up to this were told yesterday night, 9 December, whether they were selected to participate in the sale or not. However, even fans who were selected to take part in the sale were not guaranteed a ticket.
Many can’t believe that even Verified Fans who had taken the time to pre-register couldn’t secure tickets. So when tickets were released today at 10 a.m and sold out in minutes, fans hit out at the venue sizes selected.
Meanwhile, Olivia and her team are yet to respond to the backlash. However, it’s possible that they will upgrade the venues or even add extra dates to the lineup.
