The 69-year-old recently spoke about her financial difficulties, confessing that she had been considering returning to her home in Hawaii, where she grew up. The 1970s model also had a four-year relationship with the Duchess of Cornwall’s environmental brother, Mark Shand, who died after an accident in 2014 at the age of 62.
In a new interview, the American-born model revealed that she was considering applying for a job at a supermarket as a cashier after the pandemic ran out of her savings. The 69-year-old said she is “seriously considering going home” to Hawaii to escape age discrimination in the workplace.
The supermodel has had a very successful career since she was discovered in Japan at the age of 15. She has appeared in many editions of English, French and Italian Vogue, as well as working for brands such as Yves Saint Laurent and Valentino.
Marie was one of the original supermodels, she has worked for designers such as Yves Saint Laurent, Versace, and Valentino throughout her career. She has also worked on TV and radio and has done everything from books to travel, but her work appears to have run out due to the coronavirus pandemic.
However, her last two years have hit her hard.
“I am completely self-reliant and I don’t know what I will do. Because during the time of the pandemic I spent most of my savings. Now i am seriously considering going home.” Further, she said, “They have less stigma about age to get a job. You can get a job at Whole Foods at 80 in America. Let’s put it this way, I wouldn’t apply to work at Whole Foods here. But at my home in Hawaii, I would do it.” If necessary, I would go there and work.
Marie said it would be nice to have some help sharing the “expenses of getting older”.
Marie married her ex-husband and photographer David Bailey in 1975, but she divorced 10 years later. She also said having a partner could have eased her money woes during her hairdo. Then, she dated Mark Shand for four years. She died in a car accident in 2014 at the age of 62.
