Katharine McPhee has defended husband David Foster after he was criticized for complimenting her post-pregnancy figure in a recent Instagram post.
David Foster, 72, suffered backlash after posted a photo of wife Katharine McPhee with the caption, “what baby!” The reference, of course, is to Katharine giving birth less than a year ago, and she looks super fit and toned. The photo showed the new mother-of-one sitting in the grass whilst wearing a black bikini.

Many fans rushed to comment on the post, calling the caption a “bad taste comment” and “tone deaf”. Fans seemingly defended Katharine, who gave birth to son Rennie about 10 months ago.
Negative comments to the post included one which read: ‘”Uncomfortable antiquated compliments” on aisle 1.’
While a second added: ‘Yeah, let’s perpetuate the unhealthy narrative that women need to be back to or smaller than their pre-pregnancy size postpartum.’
Another wrote, “I get what you’re saying but this is a very unhealthy post. Not cool at all.”
And there’s more … “Why are you putting your wife’s body on display like a trophy?”
Responding to the negative response, the former American Idol contestant, 37, shared a photo of herself in a one-piece red swimsuit while referring to her own body image issues, writing, “ok the press around my husbands photo he posted of me is so dumb… I’m sorry but we are not sorry.”

She explained, “And for all of you who can’t deal with it maybe this helps. I’ve struggled with weight my whole 20s and 30. I’ve gone up and down 10 times over. Does that make you feel better? There is nothing wrong with that -most people do.”
The Smash star admitted she ‘lost this baby weight without dieting,’ adding that she believes ‘diets are the worst and [she’s] had zero pressure from anyone’ to lose weight.
McPhee went on to say that she’s ‘found a great workout’ and let her ‘body do its thing’ to lose the baby weight, and was not worried if she put weight back on in the future. Guess what?’ she said. ‘I’ll probably gain weight again at some point too. Who cares?’
She had another message for the critics: “Stop being so offended by what people post who have zero impact on your life and move on. Maybe you should have more of an attitude of like, let’s say… ‘oh that’s nice he thinks his wife is hot.’ I cannot with this overly sensitive society right now.”
Katharine ended with a reference to another superstar, saying, “But as Taylor Swift said haters gonna hate byyeeee.”
Friends and fans rushed to comfort the actress, with Debra Messing commenting: “Brava! And send me your workout.”
Rachel Zoe remarked: “You get them lady, you look [fire emojis] and I love that David Foster is crushing on his wife… haters gonna hate.”
Responding to McPhee’s Instagram post, her step-daughter Erin Foster wrote: “If I can accept my step mom looking like this, you certainly should be able to. The photo wasn’t altered or filtered and she’s had no surgery.
“You can’t shame someone for feeling cute after a baby whether she’s sharing stretch marks or a six pack. Let her live.”
