Former reality show star Josh Duggar is back in court in Arkansas, where a judge could sentence him to a maximum of 20 years in prison for accepting and possessing child pornography. Prosecutors are demanding maximum punishment for Duggar, whose extended family is the focus of the TLC reality show “19 Kids and Counting”. His lawyers asked a court in Fayetteville, about 225 miles northwest of Little Rock, to send him to prison for five years.
Duggar was arrested in April 2021 after a Little Rock police detective discovered that child pornography files were shared on a computer-controlled by Duggar. Researchers have confirmed that images of child sexual abuse, including children, were downloaded to a computer by a car dealer owned by Duggar in 2019. Just a day before Josh Duggar appeared before Judge Timothy L. Brooks for a verdict, the judge rejected his request for a new trial. The defense stated in the motion that the public prosecutor did not publish the evidence in time. According to the court, the public prosecutor secured the relevant evidence. Judge Brooks said the defense knew Caleb Williams’ conversation with federal agents. He added that the defense had the opportunity to call him as a witness if he wished.
Duggar’s parents said he knew about the affair and apologized to him. After the recost reappeared in 2015, Duggar publicly apologized for the unspecified behavior and was released as a lobbyist for the Family Research Council, a conservative Christian group.
Caleb Williams was a friend of the Duggar family. He allegedly collaborated with Josh Duggar at his car party but apparently, he wasn’t within the in the state of Arkansas when Josh downloaded illegal files. In her opening statement, the defense pointed to Williams as a possible suspect.
