Ahead of her new action movie ‘The 355’, Jesssica Chastain has explained why she believes that Hollywood has been getting female spies “wrong”. The 44-year-old actress stars in the upcoming spy-flick with Lupita Nyong’o, Diane Kruger and Penelope Cruz. She feels that the movie does more than just objectifying female spies.
In an interview with Empire, Chastain has discussed what separates this new action flick from previous female led thrillers. The actress said that, Hollywood has “really got female spies wrong”, explaining that previous movies have shown them as “honeypots” using their sexuality to do their spy-work. Chastain argues that real life female spies are “used for their minds”, and the the more accurate depiction makes a film a lot more tasteful and interesting.

“I feel like the film industry has really got female spies wrong….They’ve portrayed them as honeypots, and that’s not the reality of the situation. Women weren’t being used for their bodies, they were being used for their minds, which is a more interesting concept.”
‘The 355’ is set to finally release early next year, having been delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The latest ztrailer of the thriller dropped last month and promises a whole lot of action and an all-star cast of characters including MCU star Sebastian Stan.

Chastain has earlier played a smart CIA analyst in ‘Zero Dark thirty’, an intelligent and determined astronaut in “Intersteller’ and a sly poker expert in ‘Molly’s game’. With ‘The 355’ directed by Simon Kinberg, the actress is now cementing her place as an action hero. Chastain’s comment definitely help the film to stand out and offer a new perspective on this very popular genre.
