In Disney’s live-action recreation of “Snow White,” actor Andrew Burnap has been cast as the male lead.Burnap is most known for his role in the Broadway production of “The Inheritance,” for which he received a Tony Award for Best Actor in a Play in 2019.
The 30-year-old actor joins a cast that features Rachel Zegler (‘West Side Story’) as Snow White and Gal Gadot (‘The Evil Queen’).
According to Variety, Marc Webb, the filmmaker behind the 2009 hit “500 Days of Summer” and two “Amazing Spider-Man” flicks, will direct the new picture, which is described as a fresh take on the 1937 classic.
The original film, “Snow White and the Seven Dwarves,” was produced in 1937 and was based on the Brothers Grimm fable. It told the story of a princess who is served a poisoned apple by her stepmother, the queen, and then falls into a deep sleep that can only be disturbed by a kiss from the prince.
New music will be written for the picture by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul, the songwriting pair behind “La La Land,” “The Greatest Showman,” and “Dear Evan Hansen.”
The soundtrack will include songs like “Heigh-Ho,” “Someday My Prince Will Come,” and “Whistle While You Work.”Later this year, the film is planned to begin production.
Aside from “Snow White,” Disney is working on live-action remakes of “The Little Mermaid,” “Pinocchio,” and “Lilo and Stitch,” as well as a prequel to “The Lion King,” which will be released in 2019.
Burnap recently completed production for Hulu’s “Under the Banner of Heaven,” starring Andrew Garfield. He’ll also participate in the limited series “WeCrashed” on Apple TV Plus.Shooting scenes is set to begin in the United Kingdom this spring, with Disney planning to release the feature in 2023.
