On the occasion of Sidharth Malhotra’s birthday, we take a look back at his transformation from Student Of The Year to Shershaah. The biopic of Captain Vikram Batra garnered a lot of praise for the actor.
Sidharth Malhotra has been in the film industry for ten years in 2022. And, based on the looks of things, the actor is primed to make his mark on Bollywood this year. Sidharth has had economic success in the past 10 years, but it wasn’t until 2021 that he became a bankable celebrity. We take a look at how 2022 is shaping up to be Sidharth Malhotra’s year, as he turns 37 on January 1/16/2022.
Nine years ago, a 27-year-old Sidharth Malhotra appeared on our screens to, to the beautiful melody of Kukkad Kamaal Da. He worked hard to persuade us that he was portraying a 17-year-old who only wanted to win the ‘Student Of The Year’ trophy by exuding charm and swagger. Varun Dhawan and Alia Bhatt also made their debuts with him in SOTY, and they established themselves firmly in the industry over the next decade, whereas Sidharth’s journey was far from easy.
Even Sidharth recognized that the movie had a positive impact on people’s opinions of him. Sidharth had said in an interview with PTI last year:, “I always wanted that my work should be my identity and I should be praised for that. I am very happy that people associate themselves with my character in the film and are feeling and feeling something. My main aim of working in films is that I can connect people to him. Shershaah has definitely changed people’s attitudes towards me. The kind of character I choose to play will definitely change people’s views.”
But, most significantly, Sidharth hopes that, with the success of the film, the industry’s mindset would change as well.“The success of Shershaah has made a lot of things easy for me. If I have any suggestion or idea for any future film, I am sure the director and producer will think it over,” he told PTI.

Shershaah, which depicted the story of war hero Captain Vikram Batra, took Sidharth five years of his life to make. Sidharth played both the late Param Vir Chakra and his twin Vishal Batra in the film. Sidharth’s career was revitalized by the film, which came after a succession of failed projects such as A Gentleman and Aiyaari. “It gives you a great sense of validation that your instincts were not wrong. Now we can say all the decisions we made were in the correct direction. It is satisfying, emotional,” he told PTI.
For the actor, this year could be a game-changer. In 2022, he will perform in three films, the first of which is the spy thriller Mission Majnu, which will be released in May and will star Rashmika Mandanna. The comedy Thank God, starring Ajay Devgn and Rakul Preet Singh, will be released in July, and the action thriller Yodha, starring Disha Patani and Raashi Khanna, will be released in November.
This slate allows him not just year-round exposure, but also the opportunity to appear in a variety of films. He is the sole lead in two of the films, and he shares screen time with one of Bollywood’s most bankable stars in the third. Sidharth would like them all to succeed for his sake. Even if they don’t, Shershaah has raised the actor to an elite tier of Bollywood stars.
