‘Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard’ Drops First Trailer for Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson Film
The long-awaited sequel to The Hitman’s Bodyguard now has a teaser trailer.
The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard, starring Ryan Reynolds, Samuel L. Jackson, and Salma Hayek — all reprising their roles from the 2017 film — gets a first look below.
Set four years after the events of the first film, bodyguard Michael Bryce (Reynolds) reunites with assassin Darius Kincaid (Jackson) on a new mission to save Darius’ wife, Sonia (Hayek), from new dangers. Antonio Banderas, Morgan Freeman, Richard E. Grant, and Frank Grillo also appear in the sequel.
Despite the fact that the original received mixed reviews (it has a Rotten Tomatoes freshness rating of 43 percent), The Hitman’s Bodyguard grossed $177 million worldwide on a budget of $30 million. The sequel will be directed by Patrick Hughes, who previously directed the first film.
The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard was supposed to come out in August 2020 but was postponed due to the novel coronavirus pandemic. The release date was then pushed back to Aug. 20, 2021, and then to June 16, 2021. Ron Schwartz, Lionsgate’s president of worldwide distribution, said in a statement: “This is the kind of summer action movie that has more humour and thrill than the first — and it’s ideal for new viewers to enjoy the franchise as well. Summer moviegoing is all about fantastic, crowd-pleasing entertainment, and The Hitman’s Wife’s Bodyguard delivers that kind of entertainment.”
