After offering a glimpse of Mads Mikkelsen’s dark wizard Grindelwald in a exciting teaser just days ago, Warner Bros. has released the first trailer of ‘Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore.‘ In the over two-minute video, we first get a quick glimpse at a bearded, much older Dumbledore, which quickly cuts to show a younger Dumbledore played by the talented Jude Law.
The upcoming film marks the third installment in the Fantastic Beasts series. Following the events of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, the film sees a young Albus Dumbledore (played by Jude Law) fending off the powerful dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald, who seeks domination over the wizarding world. Magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) is once again brought into the fold, leading a team of witches and wizards, along with Muggle baker Jacob (Dan Fogler), to help Dumbledore save the world.
“The world as we know it is coming undone,” says Jude Law’s Albus Dumbledore in the footage. “Things that seem unimaginable today will seem inevitable tomorrow. Should you agree to do what I ask, you’ll have to trust me, even when every instinct tells you not to.”

The Secrets of Dumbledore marks Mikkelsen’s debut as Grindelwald, taking over from Johnny Depp, who parted ways with the Harry Potter franchise in the wake of his legal battles with Britain’s newspaper The Sun and his ex-wife Amber Heard. The recasting of the evil wizard has been one of the film’s most talked-about aspects for the last year, and his new look is clearly a change from Johnny Depp’s more bizarre white hair, pale complexion, and tiny moustache. As he attempts to declare war on muggles, Mikkelsen’s Grindelwald seems to be a much more aggressive and proactive version of the character.

The Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore trailer makes several nods to the original series, including the introduction of Dumbledore’s brother Aberforth, Quidditch sequences, Hogwarts house points (“Three points to Hufflepuff!”) and the magical Room of Requirement.
The trailer includes the revelation that Dan Fogler’s muggle Jacob is receiving a wand from Dumbledore, as well as a hint of Newt’s future magizoology study. The trailer also teases further explorations of a 1930s-era Hogwarts and Dumbledore’s work as a professor, including a return to the grand dining hall seen in the original Harry Potter films
Most of the old cast returns, followed by a couple of new faces. We also see some exotic-looking animals and Eddie Redmayne’s Newt Scamander getting along with them wonderfully as usual. As well as Redmayne and Law returning, The Secrets of Dumbledore also brings back Ezra Miller as Credence (aka Aurelius Dumbledore), Dan Fogler as Jacob Kowalski, Katherine Waterston as Tina Goldstein and Alison Sudol as Queenie Goldstein. Jessica Williams will also be back as Ilvermorny professor Eulalie ‘Lally’ Hicks. Secrets of Dumbledore will not only be about preventing a wizarding world war, but, as the title suggests, might offer some interesting sneak-peek into the intriguing personality of Albus Dumbledore.
David Yates — who has helmed both previous Fantastic Beasts movies, and the last four Harry Potter movies — returns as director on Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore. J.K. Rowling, who wrote the original book series, as well as the screenplays for 2016’s “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them” and “The Crimes of Grindelwald,” has co-written “The Secrets of Dumbledore” with Steve Kloves, who worked on many of the original “Harry Potter” movies. Rowling and Kloves are also producers on Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore alongside David Heyman, Lionel Wigram, and Tim Lewis.
Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore is scheduled for a global theatrical release April 15, 2022.
