He has four siblings: Jamal, Travis, Netia, and Melvin, and is the son of Sheila and August Alsina Sr. August was motivated to pursue a career as a performer after witnessing Lauryn Hill in “Sister Act 2,” and at the age of 14, he began uploading videos on YouTube.
