Ace musician AR Rahman’s eldest daughter, Khatija, got engaged to audio engineer Riyasdeen Shaik Mohamed on December 29. The ceremony which took place in Chennai was attended by close friends and family members and Khatija announced the big news on social media in a post on Sunday. She shared a picture of herself clicked at the function in which she is seen dressed in a pink embroidered outfit with a matching embellished mask and a garland. Khatija dropped a picture of her fiance alongside her picture.
“With the blessings of the Almighty I’m happy to announce to you all my engagement with Riyasdeen Shaik Mohamed @riyasdeenriyan, an aspiring entrepreneur and a wizkid audio engineer,” Khatija wrote in the caption.

Many celebrities showered their love for Khatija in the comments section. Singer Neeti Mohan said, “Many many congratulations. This is such a wonderful moment.” Harshdeep Kaur commented, “Congratulations to the both of you. God Bless!!”
Shaik Mohamed, who is a live sound engineer at AR Rahman’s studio, also shared the photo collage on Instagram and wrote, “With the blessings of the Almighty I’m happy to announce to you all my engagement with Khatija Rahman, @khatija.rahman musician, producer & philanthropist. The engagement happened on 29th December, on her birthday in the presence of close family and loved ones.”
Khatija commented on his post and said “Blessed and grateful to have got you in my life Riyasdeen. In shaa Allaah. Allahumma Barik.”
AR Rahman also broke the happy news to his fans on Instagram and shared a picture on his Instagram account.
In 2020, Khatija was embroiled in a controversy when writer Taslima Nasreen called her burqa suffocating. However, Khatija reacted to the controversy in a mature way. In a social media post, she clarified that choosing to wear a niqab was her independent decision, and it wasn’t imposed on her, urging people to not be judgmental.
On the professional front, Khatija Rahman made her singing debut in films with her father AR Rahman’s composition “O Maramanishi/Puthiya Manidha” in in Rajnikanth’s Enthiran alongside the legendary singer SP. Balasubramanyam. Reportedly she was just 14 years old when she sang the song.Last year, Khatija sang a song, “Rock A Bye Baby“, in the Hindi film “Mimi”, starring Kriti Sanon.
In a 2020 interview with news portal, Khatija opened up about her famous father and his impact on her career.
“I definitely owe it to him … but after that it is going to be my hard work,” she said. “Just with my last name, nothing can be done. At the most it can give some placement or make it easy initially, but after that it’s only my work that will speak for itself. And, that what I truly believe. But I am always grateful to him.”
For the unversed, AR Rahman got married to Saira Banu on March 12, 1995. They are blessed with three children, two daughters Khatija Rahman, Rahima Rahman and a son Ameen Rahman who are musicians.
