Education
Alvin Malnik graduated from Soldan High School in 1950 after attending Clark Elementary School. He went on to Washington University, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in 1954. He served in the United States Army as a Guided Missile Officer from 1954 to 1956, rising to the rank of Reserve Captain. He studied law at the University of Miami from 1956 to 1959, graduating with honors and earning an LLB and J.D.
Career
He began his fascinating business career as a lawyer for around ten years before focusing on real estate development and finance. He has never been in bankruptcy or had any negative judgments against him. He is a veteran of the University of Miami’s Founders Society, a pioneer of the University of Miami/Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center, a builder of Mount Sinai Medical Center, and the first individual to ever receive the Make-a-Wish Foundation of South Florida’s “Lifetime” Benefactor designation.
In addition to his real estate and finance businesses, Mr. Malnik founded the world-famous ‘The Forge Restaurant’ 40 years ago, which is the second-oldest restaurant in South Florida (the first being Joe’s Stone Crab Restaurant). The Forge has been named one of America’s landmark restaurants, has won the International Grand Master Wine Award, and was chosen the best restaurant in the country by Wine Spectator Magazine.
Personal Life
According to several of his pals from back then, he had a playboy personality. In 1950, he married his first wife, but they subsequently divorced owing to problems in their relationship.
