The first trailer for ’83’, the much awaited project of director Kabir Khan was released today. The sports drama is based on India’s underdog victory against the reigning champions West Indies at the 1983 cricket world cup. The long-delayed project stars Ranveer Singh as former Indian captain Kapil Dev.
The 4-minute trailer opens with the commentator mentioning how the Indian cricket team must be recovering from the double thrashing they received from West Indies and Australia at India vs Zimbabwe 1983 match. What follows is the journey of how the underdogs overcome all odds to emerge as champions at the 1983 World Cup. The rivalry between India and the West Indies team, which was at its height at the time, is given a lot of attention here.
Ranveer as Kapil Dev looks impressive and the sports drama seems to have all the elements of a hit written all over it. Harrdy Sandhu playing Madan Lal and Ammy Virk playing Balvinder Sandhu are quite impressive in the trailer.

Ranveer Singh, playing Kapil Dev, has captured the nuances of Kapil’s diction impressively. Besides Ranveer Singh, 83 also stars Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jiiva, Saqib Saleem, Jatin Sarna, Chirag Patil, Dinker Sharma, Nishant Dahiya, Harrdy Sandhu, Sahil Khattar, Ammy Virk, Addinath Kothare, Dhairya Karwa, R Badree, Pankaj Tripathi and Deepika Padukone among others.

The ’83’ trailer has already created a lot of excitement among fans. Many had an emotional reaction to the trailer. “Literally had tears in my eyes after watching this trailer… Can’t imagine how special this 1983 World Cup would have meant for them,” one wrote in the comments section on YouTube. “Goosebumps and tears, I am sure no one would able to hold their tears while seeing this trailer and the movie for sure,” another said.
Even Kapil Dev gave a shoutout to the trailer and shared the same on his official Instagram handle. Alongside, he wrote in the caption, “The story of my team. #83Trailer in Hindi Out Now: 83 RELEASING IN CINEMAS ON 24TH DEC, 2021, in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. Also in 3D.
The film will have its world premiere on 15 December at Saudi Arabia’s Red Sea International Film Festival. It is scheduled to hit theatres on 24 December in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. Kamal Haasan’s Raajkamal Films International and Nagarjuna Akkineni’s Annapurna Studios are joining hands with Reliance Entertainment to present the Tamil and Telugu versions, respectively. Prithviraj production and Kichcha Sudeepa’s Shalini Arts are set to present the film in Malayalam and Kannada versions.
